Boscov’s Binghamton Store Reopens as New Lease is Finalized

After being closed for several weeks because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boscov's department store in downtown Binghamton is back in business.

Boscov's senior vice president Jacob Stein said the store at Court and Water streets reopened Monday, as did the company's store near Utica.

Stein said the two other Boscov's stores in New York state - in Albany and Clifton Park - should be able to resume operations Wednesday.

The Reading-based Boscov's has been gradually reopening stores since Mother's Day.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David Tuesday said he expects to announce the signing of another one-year lease renewal with Boscov's in the next few days.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said the approvals for the new agreement are in place. He said the terms of the deal are similar to the last short-term lease which expired while the store was closed during the pandemic shutdown.

The mayor said efforts are continuing toward a longer term lease for the department store.

City and Boscov's officials have been working with state economic development officials to obtain funding for needed building and parking garage improvements that would help keep the store open.
