A vehicle slammed into the front doorway of the Binghamton Boscov's store several weeks ago but repair work has yet to get underway.

According to posts on social media, the car crashed into the main entrance at Court and Water streets around 3:30 a.m. on August 21.

A person who came upon the scene a short time later said he believed a woman had been driving the vehicle. He said she was out of the car and appeared to have escaped serious injury.

An online post suggested the vehicle that struck the store and a mailbox had been hit by a car that was being pursued by police. Authorities have released no information about the crash.

Boscov's has leased the building housing the Binghamton department store since 1984.

Leadership Alliance CEO Stacey Duncan said in an email "essentially the City is the landlord" for the property. Responding to questions from WNBF News, Duncan wrote "The word I received from the City upon inquiry is that the repairs are to begin on or around October 6." She said she did not know why work on the damaged entrance has been delayed.

Jacob Stein, Boscov's executive vice president of operations, wrote in an email: "As soon as the materials necessary to make the repairs arrive, the repairs will be made. We expect that to occur in early October."

It's not known how much the entrance repair work will cost. A large display window on the Water Street side of the store was smashed during a disturbance in July 2021. Damage in that incident was estimated at a few thousand dollars.
