Binghamton’s Economy Shows Some Improvement
The Greater Binghamton area is showing signs of economic progress.
Vice President and Regional Economist at M&T Bank, Gary Keith presented the 2018 Economic Forecast at the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce’s annual economic overview and awards event.
Keith says the progress last year was small but showed gains in employment and Gross Domestic Product. Officials say more work is needed to rebuild the local economy including continuing the progress in diversifying and restructuring the economic base and utilizing the talents of the higher educational institutions in the area.
The Chamber is also recognizing members making significant contributions to the area’s economy.
Some of the 2018 award recipients include Binghamton Rumble Ponies Owner John Hughes for the huge renovations to NYSEG Stadium and spear-heading the campaign to bring the 2020 Eastern League All Star Game to Binghamton, the Tiger Ventures Program at the Union Endicott School District which is charged with re-imagining high school to build character and prepare students for the real-world and the Binghamton Philharmonic for transforming their business model to attract non-traditional Philharmonic audiences.
