Binghamton University Welcomes Back Students This Weekend

The new school year is almost here and Binghamton University is welcoming students and their families to start a new academic year.

This weekend is officially move-in day signaling the start of classes at Binghamton University.

According to a news release from Binghamton University around 3,000 first year students are expected to start classes, in addition 1,000 transfer students and 1,600 new graduate students will become part of the 18,600 students to attend BU this semester.

In the release BU president DR Harvey Stenger said “We are excited to start the semester and thrilled that as of Aug. 16, close to 90% of currently enrolled students have either provided proof of vaccination or have been granted an exemption for medical or religious reasons,”

Dr Stenger also noted that the campus has been able to keep COVID-19 cases extremely low with only one positive case all summer.

Concerns about the Rising Delta variant have put a required mask mandate in doors for all persons, regardless of vaccination status, which includes classrooms, hallways, libraries, common spaces and offices, as well as buses and shuttles.

The campus is also requiring all students who live on campus and have not received exemption be vaccinated, and all off campus students who are not vaccinated, be tested weekly at the on-campus testing center, as well as tracking those who test positive to ensure that isolate to prevent exposure.
