In-person classes at Binghamton University have been suspended as COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Broome County.

University President Harvey Stenger announced the move Wednesday morning. He said there has been an "uptick in infections" among people connected with the school.

Stenger said all classes will be held remotely starting Thursday. The current plan is to "pause" in-person instruction for two weeks.

The university's Vestal campus will remain open and "core operations" will continue. Employees were advised to "continue their current work arrangements."

Residence halls and libraries will not close. Medical services and counseling will continue as usual.

Stenger said the university will resume in-person classes as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of students, faculty and staff.
