Binghamton University Preparing to Provide Courses Online

Contingency plans are being developed at Binghamton University in the event the Vestal campus is affected by coronavirus concerns.

University President Harvey Stenger said officials have been consulting with public health professionals and taking steps to protect the campus.

In a letter issued Sunday, Stenger said there were no confirmed COVID-19 cases "within our faculty, students, staff, county and neighboring counties."

Because of that, he said it is premature to cancel classes or move classes online.

Stenger wrote that the university is "working to ramp up access to online course materials" and other technologies so courses can continue "via alternate platforms."

Contingency plans will be discussed with university deans on Tuesday and at a faculty meeting this week.

Instructors are being advised to be flexible and to work with students who miss class due to illness.
