An owner of Binghamton's Red Oak restaurant says work on the Front Street reconstruction project seems to be at a "standstill."

Julianne Ludka says she's been told the company doing the job has shifted the majority of its crew to another project.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Ludka said there appeared to be work going on at the site for "a handful of days" over the past month. She said "It's really slowed down to a crawl."

In a statement responding to the assertions on the broadcast, deputy mayor Jared Kraham wrote that he had confirmed with the city engineering department that "there's been ongoing work on the project."

Kraham said crews this week have been working on a water main and doing storm sewer work. He said "besides something like weather, work is ongoing."

Kraham said underground work should be completed this construction season and the remainder of the project will be finished in the spring.

When Mayor Richard David announced the start of construction last November, he the project would "take until next fall to complete."

Ludka is angry about the pace of the work, noting the lengthy disruption continues to cost the Red Oak restaurant and its employees a lot of money. She told WNBF News that it "just seems like nobody cares."
