Binghamton Devils Sign New York Native
The Binghamton Devils made some news today as they announced the signing of forward Ryan Schmelzer. Schmelzer has agreed to a one-year, American Hockey League contract.
Schmelzer is a 6'2", 183-pound forward who was born in East Amherst, New York. He played four seasons at Canisius College where he was the team captain this past season.
According to information in a press release from the Binghamton Devils Schmelzer scored 40 goals and added 66 assists for 106 points during his collegiate career. When he completed his collegiate eligibility Schmelzer played seven regular season games with Adirondack in the ECHL and then saw action in 17 playoff games where he scored nine goals and added eight assists for 17 points.
The Adirondack Thunder are the ECHL affiliates of the New Jersey Devils, Binghamton's parent team.
