Oxford Academy and Central School Superintendent Shawn Bisetta issued a statement to the school community expressing sympathies to Wakefield’s family, friends, classmates, teammates, coaches, teachers and school staff.

The district announced a one-hour delay to the start of classes May 6 for staff preparation and grief counseling and support.  Additional counselors are being brought in to support staff counselors who will be available for as long as needed.  The statement invites families to also call counselors at any of the school buildings for guidance in helping students work through any issues they may have.

Wakefield was a member of the soccer and basketball teams in Oxford.
