New York State Police were notified of the discovery around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators determined the skimmer was placed inside the ATM Friday evening by a man. He was described as white, wearing glasses, shorts, a ball cap and a hooded sweatshirt.

The same man is believed to have been involved in a similar incident with a skimming device in Scranton in February.

Police say it appears security features may have immediately disabled the Community Bank ATM but it's not known whether any cards were compromised.

People with information regarding the suspect or the skimmer may contact state police at Oneonta at 607.432.4844.

Community Bank did not return a call seeking further information about the device or whether skimmers have been found at any of the company's other ATMs.

Community Bank has offices in Johnson City, Owego and Little Meadows.
