The rollover crash happened around 5:55 a.m. Thursday as the trash-hauling truck left Route 434 at the Route 17 Apalachin interchange.

The rig overturned onto its right side on the curve leading to the expressway.

Authorities say the tractor-trailer was being operated by 51-year-old Brian Petrovich. State police say he was not hurt.

Trooper Nathan Riegal said the New York State Police commercial vehicle enforcement unit was investigating the crash.

Riegal said the 2012 Kenworth tractor and the trailer are registered to Mr. Bult's Incorporated of Illinois.

New York State Department of Transportation spokesman David Hamburg said the agency sent equipment and workers to the scene. He said they were prepared to clean up the spilled garbage but the trucking company hired a crew to do the job.

Hamburg said DOT units were on the scene for more than four hours.
