Aliza Spencer Killing: Bigelow Street Residents Want Information

People who live in the Binghamton neighborhood where a 12-year-old girl was fatally shot say they are puzzled why no additional information has been released about the case.

City police have been following up on potential leads in their investigation into the death of Aliza Spencer, the sixth grade student was was killed last Thursday night.

The only information provided by police came during a City Hall news conference held 16 hours after Aliza was shot in the chest. Since then, police have offered no status reports on the investigation nor have they indicated whether they've identified a suspect.

Police have said Aliza was shot in the chest as she walked with her father and brother near the family's home on Bigelow Street.

Nearby residents say investigators have returned to the neighborhood to conduct additional interviews and look for more potential evidence.

Several who spoke with WNBF News in recent days have said they were surprised and disappointed that they still don't know what really happened.

In a social media post, a woman who lives close to where Aliza was shot wrote: "The police have barely said anything except for it was not a drive by and there are no suspects. There was nothing said about a person approaching or any videos to show that. If that is the case that girl was killed by someone in a house right HERE where we live!!"

The woman expressed concern about how Aliza's death is being treated: "I don't understand how a child can be killed right here and it seems it is being brushed under the rug already!"
