A second person in New York state has tested positive for the coronavirus and is hospitalized in serious condition.

According to a statement released by Governor Andrew Cuomo, a 50-year-old man from New Rochelle has a confirmed case of the disease.

Cuomo made the announcement Tuesday morning, less than two days after he revealed a woman in Manhattan was the first patient in the state diagnosed with COVID-19.

A statement issued by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the diagnosis was made on the first day of testing by the city's public health laboratory.

The mayor said health investigators are working "to identify close contacts and the appropriate next steps."
