Winter can be a tough season to keep a positive attitude through, but there could be a few things you can do, including a colorful event, to help out.

Speaking on the February 25th edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Joanne Weir of the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier, Inc. and Recovery Coach from MHAST's Sunrise Wellness Center, Cindy Casterlin talk about mental health, challenges in staying positive year-round and an upcoming event that not only is a mood-booster, but benefits the Mental Health Association.

Casterlin says a key to an individual getting over a case of the "blahs" is to take a close look at what they are feeling and why.  They should also feel comfortable talking to someone about their feelings and recognize when they may need a higher level of help, such as the services offered by MHAST.

Meanwhile, Weir talks about the "Happiest 5K on the Planet", the Color Run that will be taking place in Binghamton Sunday, April 15.  Weir says in addition to the run, walk or stroll, whatever you prefer, while being doused in colored powder, there will be a number of other activities, food and music, a new participant kit with the flashy Unicorn Medal.

Teams are being signed up but volunteers are also needed to help with the Color Run.

Southern Tier Close Up is heard Sunday at 6am on Wild 104.
