What You Don’t Need To Discuss With Your Partner
You always want to be open and honest with the person that you're seeing, but Bustle says that there are some things that you don't have to discuss with your partner if you don't want to.
- Your exes while you shouldn't hide anything about your past, sexual, romantic or otherwise, you also don't have to talk about your exes if you don't want to. Your partner is allowed to ask questions, but you only need to provide answers if and when you're comfortable doing so.
- Your partner's family and whether or not you may like them. We can't help where we come from, but you shouldn't have to discuss with your partner whether or not you like their family. As long as you're pleasant to them when you see them, that should really be enough.
- Things that you can't change such as if you're an introvert or an extrovert. If your significant other wants to discuss and try to change things about you that you cannot change, then there is a bigger issue at play. However, you can refuse to talk about what they want to talk about if it is something that can't be changed at all.
Having an open and honest flow of communication between you and your partner is the key to any successful relationship, but you have to be comfortable with providing any information. You don't have to have secrets, but you need to have boundaries.
