I reached out to the Broome County Humane Society to get an update on Trooper, one of the two dogs that were thrown from the moving SUV last week near Whitney Point.

Trooper is the dog that was more severely injured of the two and had to have his right front leg amputated because it was too damaged to save.

The Broome County Humane Society said that Trooper's doctors at the Colonial Veterinarian Hospital are taking great care of him and he has a long way to go, but he is actually up and moving around on his three remaining legs. He's not too steady on his three limbs, but that should come with time.

The Humane Society on their Facebook page, that Trooper is eating, he is in good spirits and he is improving. They said the dog is proving to be a fighter.

Police still have not found the perpetrators for this heinous act. State Police are still hoping someone will come forward with information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

According to WBNG, the vehicle that the dogs were thrown from is believed to be an older Dodge Durango that was very dirty and had rust along the hatch near the bumper area.

If you have any idea who this might be, please contact the New York State Police barracks in Homer at (607)-749-1614.

As of this morning, we have not received any new information regarding the dash cam video footage from the tractor-trailer driver that stopped to help these two dogs. The police were hoping that the dash cam would show a clear picture of the license plate so they could track down the owner of the car.

The Broome County Humane Society is very thankful for all the people who have donated to help pay for the medical treatment of both Trooper and his buddy Adam.

As of now, according to their Facebook page, they have enough to cover the medical treatment that both dogs have received thus far. They said if they have money left over when it's all said and done, they will use that money to help offset the cost to care for all the other animals currently at the shelter.

Here's a video of Troopers first steps as he tries to get used to the loss of his leg.
