Binghamton University and SUNY Broome Community College students along with professional golfers and volunteers at the Dicks Sporting Goods Open fill comfort bags for victims of sexual and interpersonal violence.

The program began only a little over two years ago and tens of thousands of bags have been filled with personal hygiene and comfort items for victims.  The 25,000th bag was due to be filled August 16.

SUNY’s Got Your Back provides support for people who often flee a violent situation with no personal care items and educates the public on preventing and responding to violence.

In addition to students, volunteers from the New York State Office of Victim Services, Department of Health, Office for the Prevention of domestic Violence, New York State Police, SUNY Title IX Coordinators Association, the New York State Coalitions Against Domestic Violence and Against Sexual Assault, SUNY Student Assembly and visitors at En-Joie Golf Club had a goal of filling 5,000 bags for the second year of the event.

More information about the effort can be found at www.suny.edu/gotyourback.
