The City of Binghamton is working with Cornell University to develop plans to re-think the historic, original entrance to Ross Park Zoo on Park Avenue.

Cornell’s Design Connect Program is working on the project that could reopen the 1875 main park gate.

Public meetings are expected to start in mid October.

Cornell students are visiting the park and meeting with representatives from the City of Binghamton and the zoo.

The goal is to “re-imagine” the 145 year old gate and the path that once took visitors into the forested glen on the City’s South Side.  The gate was not designed for modern vehicles and was left to largely fall into disrepair.

Cornell Design Connect charges $500 per project it works on to cover travel and material expenses.  After the students wrap up their work and makes recommendations, the City will look for funding to implement those ideas.
