A public meeting to talk about the proposed Calpine Energy project in Sanford and Windsor was to be held at the end of last month but was put off due to bad weather.  The first session starts at 2 p.m. at the Windsor Community House with the second session starting at 6 p.m. Testimony is being heard by administrative law judges for the New York State Public Service Commission and Department of Environmental Conservation.

The Houston, Texas energy company has been looking to put 33 turbines on land in eastern Broome County.  The series of hearings that start today are part of the permitting application that has been making its way through the system for a couple of years.

The so-called Bluestone Wind Farm is projected to produce 124-megawatts of energy from 29 installations in Sanford and Four in the Town of Windsor.

Calpine is also looking to develop a wind farm to the west in Steuben County that would produce 290-megawatts.

There has been no cost estimate released for the projects.
