If you're looking for a roommate because all of your friends are bunking up with other people, you may feel a bit lost in trying to figure out how to know if someone would be a good fit for you. Bustle has come up with some great questions for you to ask any potential roommate.

  • "What's your definition of cleanliness?" because one person's "I vacuum every morning before going to work" clean can be another person's "As long as the dishes are in the sink, that's good enough" clean. You don't want to drive each other nuts because you can't agree on what would be a good level of clean.
  • "What do you do in your free time?" is important to ask just so you know if they like to play the drums after work when you like to unwind with a cup of tea and a book. If they spend a lot of time outdoors, then you may have the house to yourself a lot. It's good to understand what to expect now instead of later.
  • "Are you a morning person?" or do they like to sleep in and therefore need the house to be quieter in the morning while they catch those extra Zzzs. If they do sleep in often, that might also mean to you that they stay up late and may be noisy well after you want to go to bed.

Finding the right roommate may feel like you're looking for a needle in the haystack, but remember, you don't have to be best friends with this person, you just have to respect them and their things.
