Damage assessment is underway in some parts of the Twin Tiers while dozens of New York State Electric and Gas customers are checking systems following a portion of the weekend without electricity.

NYSEG reported most customers had finally been restored in the late afternoon or nighttime May 6 in Broome, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga and Delaware Counties.

At one time, over 70,000 NYSEG and Rochester Gas and Electric customers were without service following a long line of strong storms Saturday, May 5. Winds over 60 miles per hour were reported Saturday night.

Dozens of trees were reported down along with various wires but there had been no word of injuries.

NYSEG said in its service region the hardest hit areas were in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties while the power interruption lingered for parts of Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Tioga Counties into May 6.

Emergency Services officials reported no injuries.
