With wedding season just around the corner, I have been reading a lot about different traditions and etiquette surrounding weddings. Bustle says that there were some quirky old-fashioned wedding etiquette rules that we thankfully do not follow anymore.

  • No one could talk to the bride until her parents did after she has gotten married. There was a proper order to who she could see and speak to first after she has officially gotten married. Now a days, we're all excited for the new couple, and such a rule does not apply.
  • A bride can't eat too much at her own wedding for the fear that she'll look too "loose". Yes, for some reason, having an appetite could imply to other people that a woman was more likely to be more sexually experienced than women who did not eat as much.
  • Brides and grooms must wear white gloves at the altar on their wedding day. I imagine that made exchanging rings all the more complicated, but such was the fashion of the day.

Thankfully, we don't have etiquette rules like these anymore at weddings. If you are going to any weddings this season, see if you can spot any etiquette rules that exist now that you find funny or bizarre!
