A New York City man is now charged with homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence in connection with a crash involving a private charter bus carrying Cornell University students and alumni in Northeast Pennsylvania that left a woman dead.

Pennsylvania State Police say 50-year-old Charles Dixon was charged December 27 in connection with the crash on State Route 380 in Covington Township in Lackawanna County in October that left one dead and several others injured.

State Police say the private commercial vehicle was apparently traveling from Ithaca to New York City at 9:05 p.m. October 14 when it left the road and crashed in a wooded area. Several passengers were taken to different hospitals near Moscow, Pennsylvania.  33-year-old Rebecca Blanco from Vacavill, California, A 2017 Cornell graduate, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

Dixon is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, 12 counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, involuntary manslaughter, 12 counts of recklessly endangering another person and several traffic violations.

He was sent to the Lackawanna County Jail on $400,000 bail.
