Motorists around the region need to be aware of possible debris in the roads as cleanup is underway from flash flooding throughout the Twin Tiers over the past several days.

Route 11 in Kirkwood was damaged by flood water August 8 and a portion of the road was closed for a time. More damage was also reported in Deposit, a day after a State of Emergency was declared for flash flooding on August 6.

While there is no official word of road closures, Emergency Services officials repeated drivers should be aware there could be travel issues concerning deteriorated pavement and debris or water on roads.

Debris from the torrential rain and flash flooding is initially being looked at as the cause of a train car derailment in Deposit that sent some freight cars into the West Branch of the Delaware River.

The National Weather Service is calling for drier weather for the weekend.
