Binghamton police are looking for a suspect after a man was stabbed on a West Side street.

Authorities say the attack happened late Monday afternoon near 133 Chapin Street.

Detective Captain John Ryan said the man sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the assault. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City in a private vehicle.

Ryan said police learned of the stabbing when they received a call from the hospital emergency department shortly before 5 p.m.

The man - who is about 46-years-old - was stabbed once in the lower back.

Ryan said four or five people were believed to have been involved in a dispute that preceded the stabbing. He said no weapon was found in the area.

Police discovered some clothing that may have been worn by the man who was stabbed.

Chapin Street between Main Street and Seminary Avenue was closed for a time while investigators looked for evidence.
