Police say a 25-year-old man faces a felony charge for allegedly making a video recording of someone in a Dollar Tree store.

Authorities say the incident at the store on Route 13 in the town of Cortlandville was reported around 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office, a person reported seeing a man "inappropriately videotaping" someone using a cellphone.

The suspect left the area after he became aware he had been spotted making the recording.

Sheriff's officers found the man a short time later at a neighboring store.

Investigators say 25-year-old Dakota Malison of McGraw was charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance. He was sent to Cortland County Jail pending his arraignment.

Officials say Malison did not know the person who was being recorded. They did not specify why the recording was deemed to be inappropriate.
