Kirkwood Eyesores to Become New Town Park

Some long-deteriorating buildings in the Town of Kirkwood are coming down to make way for a new park.

The Broome County Land Bank Corporation says buildings at 1080/1090 Route 11, often called the Town’s most blighted sites, were being torn down at a cost of $16,400.

Both residential structures had become too dangerous for habitation and had been a concern for Town officials and residents for several years.  Making matters worse, officials said, the buildings are conspicuously at the gateway to the Town.

Kirkwood acquired the property last August.

Gorick Construction of Binghamton is the demolition contractor while Delta Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors of Endwell are providing environmental services.

The Land Bank Community Revitalization Initiative is funded through the State Attorney General’s office.
