Johnson City police are investigating the death of a young boy in his village home.

Village Police Chief Brent Dodge Monday afternoon confirmed detectives are looking into the death of an 11-year-old child.

The boy died on Saturday. In a brief statement, Dodge said: "The exact cause of death has not yet been determined so we are investigating it as a suspicious death."

Dodge declined to release the boy's name or any other details surrounding his death.

The child's relatives and acquaintances have been interviewed by investigators over the past couple of days.

Village police and child protective services officials were said to have been familiar with the family.

The police chief did not indicate when he expected to release more information about the investigation.

It was not known whether an autopsy had yet been performed.
