So, this thing happened. It snuck right up on me and took me completely by surprise. I’ve turned into my mother.

Okay, maybe I haven’t completely turned into my mother but suddenly I’ve found myself saying some of the same things my mom said like, “We don’t chew our toenails.” Or, “It’s not appropriate to lick the grocery store floor.” I know. I’m officially the meanest mom- I’ve taken the tile from my mother.

When I look back on my childhood, I have some pretty incredible summer memories. My mom was a firm believer in education and so most of the things we did during summer break were centered around learning. There was the time we went to Canada for the day. We didn’t have a map, and none of us spoke French. And, we got lost and traveled in a big circle around a sewage plant (on a 90-degree day with no AC in the car) so many times that my little brother, Jeff got sick in the car. That was fun. And then there was the time we went to Sleepy Hollow to learn about the Headless Horseman and a couple of us kids had nightmares for about a week because we thought we were going to be kidnapped from our beds by a headless dude on a horse.

We weren’t really the amusement park, parasailing, bungee jumping kind of family, so when I moved away from my parent’s home, these are the things that I pursued during my vacations. I craved adrenaline filled adventure. Until one night when I went through a metamorphosis and the next day, I turned into my mother. Suddenly I didn't crave adventure and running around from here to there. Instead, I craved peace and quiet. And sleep.

Apparently wishing for peace, quiet, and relaxation on vacation comes with age. According to BroBible, It’s really no surprise that a new survey discovered that people who are between the ages of 18- and 21-years-old want adventurous vacations. Millennials (people between the ages of 22 and 37 want to spend time with friends and family and then Gen-Xers (my generation) which are people between the ages of 38 to 53, are the ones really into relaxation above all else.
