When your partner is going through something, whether that be the death of a family member or a change at work, you would want to support them in any way that you can. However, if you see that your partner is pulling away, Bustle says that there are some things that you can do in order better help them.

  • Ask questions if you don't know why they're upset, and if they start opening up to you, actively listen to them. They may just need to vent, and there may not be a solution to their problems right away.
  • Give them space if that's what they need in order to sort out their thoughts and feelings. Not everyone likes to talk through things that are bothering them, sometimes people process their problems best when they can sit down and just think through them.
  • Set boundaries because even though your partner may be going through something right now, they shouldn't take advantage of you and your support in any way. Make sure that you look after yourself when also helping your partner as best as you can.

Supporting your partner during hard times can be difficult if you are unsure of their needs and how best to help them, but if they know that you are there for them, that can sometimes be the best thing for them.
