Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he wants legislators to pass his “Red Flag” legislation that would allow parents or teachers to petition a judge to have guns removed from homes of students who are deemed to be a risk to themselves or others.

The proposal that would look into the home situation of students considered “at risk” is another effort to enhance safety in the schools in the wake of deadly shootings across the country and even more reports of threats at schools this year.

The Democrat, who is riding a bus around the state to promote his idea, says he doubts the Republican-led Senate will go along. However, Republican Senate Leader John Flanagan said the GOP will consider Cuomo’s bill but hope the Governor will also seriously look at a package passed by the State Senate that, among other things, calls for paying for armed security officers in schools.
