Motorists complaining about the condition of Front Street heading into the City of Binghamton will soon be complaining about the detours around the deteriorated area of Front Street.

City officials have announced that the Front Street Gateway Improvement Project will resume this month and involve an inbound detour from Front Street to Prospect, Mygatt and Clinton Streets back to Front Street.  The outbound detour is Front Street to Clinton Street, Oak, Prospect then back to Front Street.

The construction will continue through the end of the year.

Officials say they will hold outreach meetings for the affected residents and business owners at the start of the construction with regular schedule updates.

Local vehicle and pedestrian traffic to businesses and homes will be maintained during the project. Normal traffic patterns will move through the area on nights and weekends.

The work is reconstructing the road and sidewalks, installing new sanitary sewer systems and storm drains, putting in new water main services, installing upgrades to signals and signage and adding decorative street lighting and landscaping. In addition, the concrete flood wall is being rehabilitated.
