Three men and a teenage boy were taken into custody after police uncovered a plan to attack a Muslim community east of Binghamton.

Authorities say all four suspects in the plot against Islamberg reside in the Rochester area.

Greece police chief Patrick Phelan said the investigation began Friday after a report of a possible threat at a local school. Detectives then learned of a "plot to attack" Islamberg.

The adults in the case each have been charged with first-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Police identified them as 20-year-old Brian Colaneri of Gates, 19-year-old Vincent Vetromile of Greece and 18-year-old Andrew Crysel of East Rochester.

The fourth suspect who is 16-years-old was not named because he is being treated as an "adolescent offender."

Phelan said search warrants were executed at "five or six" locations as part of the investigation. He said three improvised explosive devices and 23 firearms were confiscated as a result of the searches.

Police also have confiscated electronic items, including phones and computers.

Phelan said the suspects had "a plan in place" to attack the Muslim community near Hancock.

If the plot had not been discovered by police, Phelan said "people would have died." He said there may be additional arrests as the investigation continues.
