The fire danger is still being dealt with in the region and it’s not being helped by people engaging in illegal activities like burning brush or lighting off fireworks.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Officials say the Walton Volunteer Fire Department put out a grass and brush fire off State Highway 10 near Beers Brook Road in the evening of May 5.

Firefighters and Deputies determined the blaze was caused by a projectile-type firework.

26 year old Brett McLaughlin of Hancock is charged with unlawfully dealing with fireworks and violating the New York State Burn Ban.

The ban is in effect through at least May 14 due to the elevated danger of grass and brush fires in the spring.
