Firefighter Hurt Battling Two-Alarm Endicott Blaze

Firefighters from five departments battled a blaze in a single-family Endicott residence.

The two-alarm fire at 305 Arthur Avenue was reported around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Endicott fire department Captain Paul Higgins said the blaze in the small two-and-a-half story house started in the basement and spread to a kitchen area on the first floor.

A man who lived in the home was out of the burning structure when a police officer arrived.

Higgins said one firefighter sustained a possible leg injury when he partially went through a floor.

The fire was declared under control after about 20 minutes.

Endicott firefighters were assisted by units from Endwell, Union Center, West Corners and Vestal.

Broome County fire investigators were at the house to determine what caused the blaze.

The Red Cross was called to assist the man who was displaced by the fire.
