In the 19th century, thousands of people who’d suffered hardships under the German and Austro-Hungarian rule decided to leave their homeland and make a new life for themselves in America. A good number of those people settled down here in the Binghamton area, but they've not forgotten where they came from nor have they allowed their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to forget. This is why through the generations, the traditions and celebrations of their homeland have been passed on and those traditions and celebrations still run strong in our community.

On Saturday, March 2, 2019, the Czechoslovak Moravan Club will hold a Fasank (Mardi Gras) celebration at the Binghamton German Club, which is located at 218 Loughlin Road in Binghamton and they’ve extended an invitation to our community to join in the celebration.

Fasank will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will feature the Czech Club's folk dancers who will perform traditional Czechoslovak folk dances. There will also be Pirohy, Holubky, Zele, Klobasy, Bauernwurst sausage, Czechoslovak pastries, and European beer available for purchase.

Jude's Polka Jets II will provide musical entertainment and the night will close with a "Bury the Basa" skit at 8:00 p.m. Admission to this celebration will be $5.00 per person and all are welcome!
