Some people have a very strong opinion one way or the other about wearing shoes inside the house. Bustle, and Dr. Nidhi Ghildayal who is an infectious disease specialist, say that there are multiple reasons why you should always remove your shoes before coming into your home.

  • Bacteria can transfer to your floors from the bottoms of your shoes, and if you have little ones (pets, children, etc.) running around and crawling on the floors, just imagine what they might be picking up with their hands and knees.
  • Allergies can be worse because you could be tracking in mold and pollen from the outside. This can irritate your allergies for much longer once you're stuck with them inside your home.
  • You can track in chemicals as well as the natural dirt and grim from the outside. Pesticides from the run-off of treated lawns or other toxic chemicals can find their way to the bottoms of your shoes and get brought inside your home.

It's always better to be safe than sorry, so if you don't already take your shoes off when you come inside the house, you definitely should get into the habit of doing so.
