The Broome County Legislature is moving ahead with what some believe will allow for better accountability by passing the so-called Daylight Legislation sponsored by Legislative Chairman Daniel Reynolds.

The measure passed unanimously May 17 and calls for quarterly financial reports to be made public by the County Executive’s office.

While both Democrats and Republicans praised the idea of transparency, some questioned if legislation was really necessary.

The financial reports are to include the county’s expenditures and fund balances, a listing of assets like vehicles and equipment that have been bought or sold, the number of people employed by county government and the performance of trust accounts held by Broome.
