Three Broome County divisions are getting a new cook in the kitchen.

The Broome County Legislature has unanimously approved replacing Aramark food services with other vendors following complaints about the quality of food and service at Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.  Aramark also prepared food for the Broome County Jail and Office for Aging, including meals at senior centers and for the meals on wheels program.

Last year, several complaints surfaced about cold food, late delivery of food, poor quality and even some nursing residents who said their dietary concerns were not being addressed.

Legislators have approved five year contracts with Sodexo and Trinity Services Ground, Incorporated for food preparation and delivery.

Sodexo will provide the meals for the nursing home and Office for Aging while Trinity will feed inmates.

Prior to the deal with Aramark, the food services for county agencies were handled in-house by a division known as “Central Kitchen.”  That division was disbanded in favor of going with a private vendor as a way to save money.

The new contracts are to run from September 1st of this year through December 31, 2023.
