Brindisi Says He Won’t Push for Impeachments
Democratic congressional candidate Anthony Brindisi says he would not support efforts to impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh or President Donald Trump.
Brindisi is challenging Republican incumbent Claudia Tenney in New York's 22nd Congressional District. Her campaign issued a news release Thursday raising the impeachment issue.
Responding to the question raised by the Tenney campaign during an interview on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program a short time later, Brindisi indicated he would not vote to impeach Kavanaugh.
Brindisi said "we need to move past" the controversy that surrounded Kavanaugh's nomination. He said Tenney would "do anything to distract from the true issues" in the campaign.
The Democratic candidate said: "I'm not for impeachment. That question comes up with the president, it comes up now with Kavanaugh. When I go to a town hall meeting... these are not the issues people are concerned about."
Brindisi said the Tenney campaign is trying to district voters by "trying to paint me in some kind of negative light."
