It is rare to even get the chance to throw a baseball outdoors in the northeast in January and rarer still to get a practice on the field in January.  Well, seeing is believing !  The Binghamton Bearcats baseball team held a workout on their turf field this afternoon.  The team went through a number of drills with temperatures hovering in the upper 30's.

The installation of artificial turf prior to last season made today's outdoor practice possible.  Binghamton's baseball team has been among the school's most successful  teams.  Led by Head Coach Tim Sinicki in his 26th season at the helm the Bearcats have won back-to-back regular season America East championships.  Last year BU finished with a 30-13 record and were defeated in the conference championship round by the Maine Black Bears.

With temperatures pushing into the mid to upper 40's this weekend the Bearcats hope to get additional practice time outdoors.  BU opens the season with a visit to Louisiana for a three-game series against Northwestern State University February 16 - 18.  Binghamton's first 22 games are on the road.  The first home game is on Tuesday, April 3rd against Bucknell.

The Bearcats open America East play at Stony Brook March 17-18.  Binghamton's America East home opener is a doubleheader set for Saturday, April 7th against UMass Lowell.
