When our world came to a screeching halt in March with news of the coronavirus pandemic, isolation, social distancing, working and learning from home, and everything else in between, most believed that the pandemic would last through the summer and then life would return to normal.

But then again, what is normal in 2020? Absolutely nothing, it would seem.

Parenting in a pandemic has been awful, but being a kid in a pandemic has been torture. Our kids have been separated from their family and friends. They’ve not been able to participate in regular events. Our kids were pulled from school in the middle of their school year, they weren’t able to have the proms and graduations they were deserving of, and the kids in school now are having to learn how to manage hybrid learning with many not having the tools they need to sufficiently do so.

Earlier this week we heard reports that Governor Cuomo was considering canceling Halloween and that members of congress had reached out to the CDC for advice and guidelines on Halloween. The good news is that Governor Cuomo has announced he will not be canceling Halloween, but there will be safety guidelines in place.

In an attempt to give our kids a taste of the normalcy they've missed for all these months, the Afton Fairgrounds will play host to a Trick-or-Treat Drive-Thru at the fairgrounds, 46 Main St, Afton, NY 13730, on Saturday, October 31 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

All are welcome and if you're a business, organization, or an individual who would like to help make it a special night for kids by handing out treats, reach out to the Afton Fair by calling 607-639-1525.
