We thought 2017 was a brutal year. And then 2018 rolled in and really showed us what brutal was. And then 2019 arrived and most of us were finally able to let out our breath when we realized the year wasn't going to be as awful as the previous two. And now here we are, stepping in not only to a new year but a new decade and I think most of us have super high expectations for 2020, almost as though it will be a fresh start to a happier life.

A new year means new goals and making new life changes. Life coach and author, Mark Richard Webb has some tips for setting and actually achieving the life goals that you and I will be setting this year.

  • Think Things Through

What do you want to accomplish in 2020? Think about some reasonable milestones and set them for the first month of the new year. And then, set some goals for the next three months, then for the rest of the year. Don't set all your goals and expect to tackle all of them right away in the first month of the year. When you set out at a steady pace, you'll have a better chance of things falling into place.

  • Visualize Your Goal

Close your eyes and really visualize your goal. By taking the time to visualize your goal, you're allowing yourself to believe that your goal is actually within reach.

  • Get Inspired and Motivated

You might feel bound and determined that you'll be able to reach your goals on your own, but do you know what will work better? Coming up with different ways you can get information and encouragement. Things like self-improvement books, lectures, online classes and such. These will really help in those moments when you find yourself needing positive reinforcement. Also, don't be afraid to lean on your friends, asking them to keep you accountable.

  • Change Your Habits

If you want your goal to happen, really want it to happen, you've got to be willing to do anything and everything to see it through. You will have to push yourself beyond your limits and step out of your comfort zone. It won't be easy.

  • Success is a Process

Remind yourself that your goal isn't going to become a reality overnight, that it's going to take time. Have patience with yourself and with the process. You've got this!
